MotioCI - Version Control for Cognos

Studio Integration & Exclusive Locking.   Version 2.0 delivers exclusive locking for BI artifacts directly within the IBM Cognos® Studios. From within ReportStudio, a report author can “check-out” a report, make changes to it, then “check it back in” along with comments describing their changes.  Other authors can still view the report and will receive automated messages alerting them to any change of state in the lock. New buttons directly within the Cognos Studios makes it very intuitive for the BI authors to participate in this process.

Version Any Type of Artifact, Anywhere in the Content Store.  The Version Control module in version 2.0 is like nothing else in the market. Any Content Store object can now be automatically versioned.  In addition to BI artifacts such as Reports, Events, and Analysis objects, MotioCI can also version Cognos administration objects such as Dispatchers, Report Services and Data Sources, as well as security related concepts such as Groups and Roles.  This versioning can be applied to any area of the Content Store, including both ‘Public Folders’ and ‘My Folders’.

Version Framework Models.  For the first time, IBM Cognos users can have one product to version artifacts inside and outside of the Content Store.

Version All Properties.  Moving far beyond the simple versioning of studio specifications, MotioCI 2.0 can version any property on any object inside of IBM Cognos.  Of the hundreds of properties MotioCI can version, a few examples are policy sets, names, descriptions, tool tips, can burst, package path, and owner.

Full Featured Labeling. This new feature allows users to identify snapshots of Cognos content.  These labels can then easily be promoted, reverted, and exported for easy release management. 

User Friendly Deployment. MotioCI provides powerful tools for deploying content from one environment to another (e.g. development to test).  Flexible options let you promote individual revisions of a single artifact, all artifacts in a given folder, or all artifacts associated with a given baseline (label).  The days of having to zip and promote Cognos artifacts are over.

Integration with Defect Tracking Systems.  Version 2.0 is easily integrated with 3rd party defect tracking systems such as JIRA, IBM Rational ClearQuest, and Trac.   As authors check-in new revisions of BI content, they can conveniently reference tickets in the external defect tracking system, and MotioCI will automatically update the ticket to cross reference it with the associated revision in version control.   This cross linkage provides great traceability between defects / change requests and the BI content modifications which occurred as part of their resolution.

Zero-Touch Version Control™.  As changes are made to any IBM Cognos artifact, MotioCI automatically tracks these changes and versions the specifications as well as any other altered properties.
